Walking Football, Sunshine and Good Company
We were delighted to welcome a group of ten players from Winchester Walking Football Club, a well‑established and friendly club based in Hampshire in South East England. Known for their strong community spirit and commitment to keeping players active through the slower, more inclusive pace of Walking Football, they were the second UK team to visit Madeira and join our Inter Madeira Walking Football (IMWF) sessions.
Friday, 18 September – First Session
Their first experience with us took place at the Centro Desportivo da Madeira in Ribeira Brava. The session was lively, friendly, and full of good energy. Our visitors immediately felt at home and were impressed by the quality of the facilities and the beautiful setting.
After training, everyone gathered at Taberna Poncha in Serra de Água for a relaxed social evening. It was a great chance to talk, laugh, and get to know each other better. The group is staying on Madeira for seven days, and we were happy to welcome them again on Sunday, 20 September.

Sunday, 20 September – Tournament Day
On Sunday, we organised a friendly Walking Football tournament at the Centro Desportivo da Madeira. With IMWF players and our Winchester visitors, we formed four mixed teams and played throughout the morning until noon.
The weather was perfect, the football was enjoyable, and the atmosphere was full of smiles. It was one of those days that remind us why Walking Football is so special.
Barbecue and Karaoke
After the games, one of our players hosted a barbecue with plenty of food and drinks. The afternoon slowly turned into an evening of karaoke, where enthusiasm mattered far more than talent. There was singing, laughter, and a few sore throats by the end … exactly the kind of social spirit we love to see.
Seeing our visitors enjoy not only the sport but also the friendship and hospitality of IMWF made the weekend truly memorable.
Walking Football, friendship, sunshine, food, music and laughter … a perfect combination.
